Toolik Science Support Services Staff

Jeb Timm (Lead Science Support and Maintenance Manager)

Jeb started working for Toolik Science Support and Maintenance in January of 2011.  He has a lifetime of experience living and working in Alaska.  His recent background includes extensive science & field support, renewable energy, vehicle maintenance and repairs, electrician, and many years as a Residential Contractor in Fairbanks and field work around the state.  Before coming to Toolik, Jeb worked for Remote Power as a Renewable Energy Engineer and Installer, installing photovoltaics and wind power systems around the state for residential, scientific, and exploration purposes.  Prior to that, he was the maintenance manager for a mine training center in Alaska, simultaneously instructing canoe lessons for Canoe Alaska and wilderness and raft guiding for Arctic Wild.  In his spare time, Jeb's most current hobbies include snowmachine and winter expeditions and captaining his 39' ocean Trawler in Prince William Sound.  In the winter of 2012-2013, Jeb planned and led a 1875 mile snowmachine expedition across the state of Alaska (  Current duties include managing the SSS and maintenance department, assisting researchers with field repairs, support and services, and upgrading Toolik's water, fuel, power and building metering and alarming to an automated system.

Faye Ethridge (Science Support and Maintenance Assistant)

Faye joined the Toolik team in 2007.  Her background includes working as fishing guide, Lot Manager of a GM car dealership, 14 years as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Master Mechanic in the United States Air Force, owning and operating a private contracting business, serving in local goverment, a formal apprenticeship with Carpenters Local 1243 subsequently working as a Journeyman carpenter, and as KOHLER Rental Power - Operations Manager.  She also had ridden over 40,000 miles on snowmobiles in the midwest and Alaska.  Current duties include Toolik facilities maintenance and assisting the Toolik research community with science support needs.

Glenn Helkenn (Science Support and Maintenance Assistant)

  Glenn joined Toolik SSS in the summer of 2013. Prior to Toolik, Glenn worked eight seasons at deep field sites in Antarctica and Greenland doing direct science support as an equipment operator, fuels operator, and all-around jack-of-all-trades.  Recently he completed the South Pole Overland Traverse (McMurdo to South Pole and back) and a traverse to Pine Island Glacier in west Antarctica.  Current duties include assisting researchers with field repairs, support and services, truck and snowmachine maintenance, camp infrastructure repairs and maintenance, and other maintenance tasks.
