About Science Support Services

The mission of Toolik Field Station is to support research and education that creates a greater understanding of the Arctic and its relationship to the global environment.

Science Support Services (SSS) is one of the main legs of the team of TFS staff that are here to support this mission.  Science support is very dynamic, and has evolved alongside the research being done here as methods, needs, and access change.  Today, we consist of a full time year round staff to help deal with the nuances of modern science; autonomous equipment sites, renewable energy, vehicle maintenance, off season support, and many more.

The SSS department was developed to support science and education at Toolik Field Station.  We do this in a number of ways by providing equipment such as trucks, boats, and snowmachines to researchers, assisting in camp and in the field with technical support, renewable energy, field assistance, and off-season support, provide water, power, and heat to the station, fabricate widgets and gadgets for researchers, and many others tasks to help keep projects and the station running smoothly.

For a better idea of what we can do, please check out our support pages, and don't hesitate to contact us with any questions!
